Automatic DIMM Handler for Future Generation Memories

Saturday, November 13, 1999 Today at the Las Vegas Comdex Show, CST announced the delivery of its re-designed automatic DIMM handler for the memory module manufacturing industry. “The traditional contactor on memory module handler distorts signal integrity and cause it to be un-usable on the new high speed memories. Memory module manufacturers are crying out for an automatic DIMM handler for the high frequency memory modules. The RoboFlex Automatic DIMM Handler with direct socket insertion is the answer” said Joe Goh, COO of CST, Inc. “This handler fits RIMM modules, PC133 modules, DDR modules and the future DDR2 modules all in one machine”.

“Eight months ago, CST’s automation engineers went out to our customers and asked them what they wanted to see in a handler. And the result is a totally redesigned handler reaching new performance levels.” Joe continued.

The new RoboFlex Automatic Handler utilizes the same manual test socket on the tester. The handler acts like a mechanical hand that gently pushes the module into the socket and activates the tester. The module is then withdrawn from the socket after test. Output module binning is done with a bi-directional conveyor putting the “good” modules onto the right bin and the “bad” modules onto the left bin. No output mix-up is, therefore, possible.

Unit comes with universal input tray that fits all kind of standard DIMM modules without adjustment. A revolutionary double stroke singulator ensures no-jam operations. High throughput design allows test of up to 8,000 modules a day.

“Different from other handler, this is designed with the line operator in mind. Our beta test shows that the test socket can run up to 200,000 modules before replacement. No minor adjustment is required once the initial setup is done. The machine can run for days without operator intervention. Its smart electronic controller allows it to automatically re-synchronize with the test if any interruption is encountered. It is indeed a low maintenance unit” explained Cecil Ho, president of CST.

With quick-change socket assembly options, the RoboFlex handler can accommodate all size and category of memory modules including SIMM, DIMM, SODIMM, and SORIMM. Automatic labeling attachment and multi-site options will also be available in the near future.

Founded in 1983, CST develops, markets, and supports computer memory tester software and hardware. CST pioneered the first low cost SIMM tester for computers in 1985. Since then, CST testers have become the standard for the computer industry, holding more than 70% of the market in memory testers for computer manufacturers and third party memory module manufacturers. With its product lines of SIMM/ DIMM memory tester and handler, CST prides itself for supplying a total memory test solution. CST has a comprehensive line of testers ranging from the low volume service tester to the high-volume production tester.
