Taiwan memory-module maker Transcend Information plans to add additional production lines and begin construction of a new fab in the second half of 2007.
Transcend plans to add four surface-mount technology (SMT) lines at its China fab to the present four in June. Construction of its second China plant will be also commence in the same month, according to company executives. The executives added in saying that Transcend has landed sufficient orders and sees tightening assembling capacity.
Due to its solid ties with Samsung Electronics, industry players noted that Transcend was able to secure considerable supplies of NAND flash during the previous price plummet and should see stronger revenues on the upside, given that leading chipmakers and analysts are all warning that shortages of NAND flash are to arrive soon.
