Wednesday, March 28, 2007

Prices for 8Gb NAND flash parts from Samsung Electronics and Hynix may increase to US$9 due to insufficient capacity in the industry and strong orders for Apple's iPhone and iPod.

The contract price for NAND flash dropped 20% sequentially in the beginning of 2007, with prices in the 8Gb segment falling below US$5, said the memory module makers. The two Korea-based players suffered significant falling prices at that time as production costs for Samsung and Hynix' 8Gb models were about US$6 and nearly US$7, respectively.

Downstream vendors pointed out supply for NAND flash is running short currently. Module makers all trying to secure more supply from NAND flash makers.
