Sun Microsystems Inc. said that its China president, Daniel Yu, has decided to leave the U.S. company.
Yu, whose Chinese name is Yu Hongde, decided to leave the company he has been with since 1985 to spend more time with his family, Sun confirmed in an e-mailed statement.
"Sun definitely needs new leadership in order to address the fast-growing China market, because this is the market they focus on now," said Edward Yu, President of Beijing-based research firm Analysys International.
"With some of the open source software getting very good momentum in China recently, especially Linux, Sun faces many challenges in the middle- and low-end market. But in the meantime, Sun is getting very tough competition from IBM and HP in the top-end market," Analysys' Yu added.
