Lenovo Group Ltd. said it is working on plans to establish a new consumer business unit.
Industry sources said Lenovo would set up the new unit to boost sales of its personal computer and other consumer electronic products in global markets, and a Lenovo spokesman confirmed the plan with Reuters by telephone.
"(The plan) hasn't been implemented yet, but we have been working towards this goal," said the spokesman, when asked if Lenovo was setting up a new consumer business unit.
"The timing of the announcement (of the new unit) depends on our top management," he said, declining to offer details.
He denied recent market speculation that Lenovo would be divided into two companies to address the commercial and consumer electronics sectors.
How the PC giant further overhauls itself to regain ground outside Asia, especially with the release of Microsoft Corp.'s Vista operating system, will be a focal point this year.
