Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. said Wednesday (April 11) it would begin producing a 24-inch LCD panel with an LED backlight that enables computer monitors to deliver color quality resembling that of today's high-quality TVs.
Samsung (Seoul, South Korea) said its proprietary LED backlight gives the panel a color saturation level of 111 percent of the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) standard, compared with 72 percent for conventional monitors.
The new displays will also feature Samsung's super patterned-ITO vertical alignment technology that provides 180 degrees of viewing area width, Samsung said. It also supports WUXGA resolution, the computer equivalent to full high-definition resolution, Samsung said.
Production on the new displays is set to begin later this quarter, Samsung said.
