Hynix Semicondutor announced it is constructing a 12-inch fab (M11) at Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, Korea.
Already housing two manufacturing facilities at the site, Hynix said construction of M11 is slated to be complete in the second quarter of 2008 with mass production to follow in the third quarter, Hynix detailed. The company will invest a total of 3.8 trillion won for two years and four months. Hynix plans to manufacture high-density NAND flash memory devices implementing sub-48nm process technology in the new facility.
According to Hynix, it owns manufacturing facilities in Icheon and Cheongju, Korea. It also houses a manufacturing site in Eugene, Oregon in the US, and another one in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China through the joint venture (JV) with STMicroelectronics. Hynix currently has two 12-inch fabs among its own facilities and acquires additional 12-inch wafers through a foundry supply agreement with ProMos Technology in Taiwan.
