EMC Corp. said it will launch a new development facility in Singapore focusing on advanced storage technologies.
EMC said in a statement that it would spend nearly $160 million here over the next five years. Much of the funding will go to building its first "E-Lab" outside of its North American operations.
The 15,000-square-foot South Asia Development Laboratory will host a team of 100 engineers and include a demonstration center for customers as well as a testing facility, EMC said.
A separate lab is also planned for qualifying next- generation digital storage and information management products, EMC said.
EMC previously announced plans to invest over $1 billion in Asia by 2010 to strengthen its R&D and market presence in the region. It said the Singapore lab would act as a "critical accelerator" for the local storage and disk manufacturing industry.
