Infineon Technologies AG (Munich, Germany) is closing an R&D operation at Kista, Sweden, affecting 130 jobs.
Work currently undertaken at Infineon's Swedish R&D unit would be transferred to Infineon locations in Asia and Germany and 130 employees would lose their jobs, the report said. About 30 employees will remain to conduct sales in Kista, the report added.
Infineon paid about 400 million euro (about $540 million) to acquire the core business of Ericsson Microelectronics in June 2002. A wafer fab on the site was closed shortly after the acquisition but the R&D team handled development of radio frequency components for mobile phones, mobile infrastructure, Bluetooth, GPS and DECT.
The transfer of the R&D projects would be finished by March 2008, the report said.
