Because of the supply problem that Japanese touchscreen manufacturer Sharp is suffering, Apple had to rearrange the orders for the iPhone touchscreen.
The report connects Sharp's supply problems with the low yield in the touchscreen production. The mechanical connection between the touchscreen and the protecting glass surface is difficult to handle and caused a high rate of rejections, the paper writes, quoting Japanese industry sources.
According to the report, Apple has increased touchscreen orders from German component supplier Balda AG in order to compensate for the lower-than-expected supply. Balda produces touchscreens through Chinese manufacturer TPK, of which Balda holds slightly less than 50 percent. While Sharp as well as Balda declined to comment, Balda earlier had acknowledged plans to expand the TPK manufacturing line in Xiamen.
Apple plans to bring its mobile phone to the US market on June 29.
