Avago Technologies Inc. has completed the acquisition of Infineon Technologies AG's polymer optical fiber (POF) business in Regensburg, Germany, marking the end of Infineon's participation in optical-communication components markets.
In early 2005, Infineon sold the bulk of its optical-transceiver business to Finisar Corp. A special line of bidirectional transceivers was sold to EZConn Corp. of Taiwan later that year. Infineon sold a glass fiber plant to Siemens VDO late in 2005.
The plastic optical-fiber market serves primarily home-networking and automotive telematics applications. The 80 employees in Regensburg will become employees of Avago, the former components business of Hewlett-Packard Co.
