UMC reported that it has collaborated Belgium-based automotive IC maker Melexis to adopt the auto-module producers to assembly its diversified automobile applications, including automotive sensors.
The companies said they have been cooperating on this product for several years.
Rudi De Winter, CEO of Melexis said that delivery of products with an embedded 0.18-micron flash processor is an important step for Melexis as it allows the company to fulfill the market needs for flexibility of integrated automotive SoCs.
Henry Liu, senior VP head of UMC’s new business development group noted that shipment of chips to Melexis customers is a milestone for everyone involved in the project and is extremely rewarding due to the highly demanding and rigorous-quality demands that characterize the automobile industry.
