Ireland has launched a research program kooking to the future of mobile technology
Supported by the Irish Government, the Next Generation Project will gather 23 telecommunications companies and researchers from the country's higher education institutes.
Over a period of 30 months, all parties said they would focus on the emerging Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem, or IMS technology, so as to develop new television, music and other services for use on mobile phones.
The initial objective is to assess what future services are required by the Irish market and to work on the development and delivery of such services.
"The aim of the research is to develop ‘when you want, where you want it’ type services," stated Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin. "IMS technology is being developed internationally and will transform the way we use mobile phones. It is important that we are ready for this next generation."
