Despite being the slow season, strong sales of notebook PCs worldwide helped drive up global PC shipments in the second quarter of this year, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
The top-five Taiwan OEM notebook makers - Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, Inventec and Asustek Computer - saw their shipments increase 7.3% from the first quarter, with the makers combining to ship 17.57 million notebooks in the second quarter, up from 16.38 million units in the first quarter, the paper quoted sources at Taiwan-based securities houses as saying.
According to figures from Gartner and International Data Corporation (IDC) overall global PC shipments were up 12.5% on year in the second quarter, at around 61 million units.
