Advanced Micro Devices Inc. will decide by year's end whether it will build a 300-mm fab in upstate New York, according to the Albany Times Union.
AMD "has until July 2009 to decide whether to proceed with the project. After that, $1.2 billion in state incentives will expire," according to the report.
Last year, AMD said that it plans to build a 300-mm plant in upstate New York. The 300-mm fab, to cost $3.5 billion, is expected to be located in the Luther Forest Technology Park in Saratoga County in upstate New York.
But it's unclear if AMD will build the plant. The company has a 300-mm fab in Germany, while it has recently talked about an "asset lite" strategy.
