Samsung Electronics is only going to meet 85% of its promised amount of NAND flash supply to its major customers.
While noting that it houses sufficient NAND flash inventory, Lu said major memory-module customers of Samsung should only see 85% of their requested amount being fulfilled in the second half of August, implying a further contract price adjustment is likely in September.
PQI rival A-Data Technology, though not revealing details about its latest announcement, posted a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on August 16 saying that it had secured long-term memory supply until April 2009.
Lu estimated that Samsung's previous fab blackout will affect overall NAND flash supply by about 3%. She added in saying that PQI is not being affected by the incident as the company had already landed a fresh batch of orders during late July.
With about 60% of PQI's current sales contributed from NAND flash-related devices/applications, and the projected healthy DRAM price trend, Lu is confident that the overall memory outlook may help swing the company from losses in the third quarter.
