Intel Corp. announced that ,in 2008, it going to make 65-nm embedded NOR flash memory ICs.
"Most embedded designs remain in production longer than cell phones or other consumer devices," said Glen Hawk, general manager of Intel's Flash Products Group, in a statement. Hawk added that stand-alone NOR memories for wireless applications were already being made using a 65-nm process.
Embedded NOR flash memory comes in parallel and serial interface formats, the company said.
Intel appears to use the term "embedded" to refer to a set of applications rather than to indicate that the NOR memory is embedded in a logic IC.
