iRobot introduced the Roomba which is able to clean floors on its own.
The company announced the availability of its new Roomba 500 series of vacuum cleaning robots Wednesday. It promised a robot with a higher "home care IQ."
"It took three years and the latest in robot technology innovations to create appliances that can clean as effectively and autonomously as the new Roomba 500 series," Sandra Lawrence, president of iRobot Home Robots, said in a statement.
The upgraded bots can free themselves from jams and get away from tassels and cord tangles, minimizing the need to clear a path before the Roomba begins cleaning. A light-touch intelligent sensing system detects when Roomba is approaching an obstacle and slow the robot automatically. Wireless technology tells the robots when they have finished cleaning one room and should go clean the next one.
iRobot said the new Roomba can move over thicker carpets and climb higher thresholds to transition easily between floor surfaces. iRobot said the new version was also enhanced for durability, convenient servicing, and greater dustbin capacity.
