LCD TV Demand on the Rise

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

Demand for LCD TV panels is rising, according to LCD panel makers, adding that strong demand for LCD TV panels will persist until the fourth quarter.

Demand for 19- and 22-inch LCD TVs is surging at present in the North America market as customers are targeting them as the third or fourth TV in the home, said LCD TV vendors. There are US$299 19-inch LCD TVs currently available in the North America market, while prices for 22-inch TVs range from US$299-399, said vendors.

Meanwhile, 32-inch LCD TV remains the mainstream size in the market. As some panel makers are shifting some capacity for LCD monitor panels, tight supply for 32-inch panels is persisting. Tight supply has also taken placed in the 37-inch LCD TV panel market. As pricing for the segment continues to dip and suppliers for 37-inch TV panels remains few, the shortage situation for 37-inch panels may increase in the second half, said panel makers.

Due to the more affordable pricing for 40-/42-inch LCD TVs, demand for 42-inch panels is picking up, with panel makers pointing out that suppliers for 42-inch LCD TV panels for certain customers are getting tight
