South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday that it has developed 2-gigabit double data rate (DDR) 2 dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips using its 60-nano meter technology.
Samsung, the world's largest computer memory-chip maker, said it will start mass production of the new DDR2 DRAMs, which boast faster data-processing speed and consume less power than ordinary DRAMs. They are mostly used in personal computers.
It is the first time for Samsung to develop such memory products using 60-nano technology, the company said. Fewer nanometers mean more semiconductors can be produced from each wafer.
