NAND flash contract prices dropped in September for the first time since June, said DRAMeXchange.
Prices of multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash posted a sequential drop of over 10% in the first half of September while prices of single-level cell (SLC) parts were relatively stable with only a single digit drop in price. The only mainstream NAND flash segment that managed to see prices rise was 2Gb SLC NAND flash.
Sources at Taiwan memory-module houses noted that the aggressive price rise from Samsung Electronics shocked most marketers in August. Demand was being suppressed by the expensive prices, as reflected in weak pricing at the spot market afterwards. The sources added that reduced demand from Apple was also a major cause of the weak pricing.
