Acer sees more consolidation in PC market

Friday, September 21, 2007

The personal computer industry is in for a wave of consolidation and there will only be room in the market for a few major players, Acer President Gianfranco Lanci said.

"Consolidation in the PC industry is continuing and will speed up. We see only a few major players in the industry," Lanci told a news conference in Madrid.

"With the acquisition of Gateway we got the right to buy Packard Bell and this will go ahead. I think we can do a good job in integrating the three companies," he added.

Even with the Gateway deal, Acer still stands well behind market leaders Hewlett-Packard and Dell and is still fighting head-to-head with Lenovo, which bought IBM's PC business in 2005.

"We saw revenue growth of about 30 percent last year, and this year will be about the same, with our margins stable at 10 point something percent," Lanci said.
