Despite the fact that memory makers are seeing heavier pressure amid weak DRAM pricing, Nanya Technology and Qimonda are enjoying some "side benefits", as evident in their buoyant branded memory module sales recently.
The Elixir brand DRAM modules have drawn good sales, especially in Russia, said sources at memory module distributors. Although demand from the spot market has been weak recently, they noted that Elixir modules continue to sell well. The adoption of DRAM chips from Nanya and good warranty service are the two major reasons for the favorable sales record, they explained. Aeneno brand DRAM modules from Qimonda are also enjoying good sales, the sources said.
Demand for Elixir DRAM modules is stable without any declines, said Nanya spokesperson and vice president of global sales and marketing, Pei-Lin Pai. Although the retail price of Elixir DRAM modules still comes higher than that of modules sold to PC OEMs, the price range is still cheaper than other white-branded modules, he noted. He added that sales of Elixir DRAM modules are mainly coming from distribution agents and system makers, rather than channel distributors.
