Intel has announced it will provide extended life-cycle support for embedded and communication products based on its Q35 chipset.
Q35 chipset supports virtualization technology with direct I/O control, automatic management technology and RAID storage technology, while it also has built-in fast recovery technology for data protection, noted sources at Intel.
In addition to technologies, Q35 consumes 50% less energy than its previous Q965 chipset with a TDP of 13.5W, which is suitable for ITX or Mini-ITX-based IPC (industrial PC) motherboards, according to Intel.
The extended support will cover the chipset and CPUs including the Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, E4300, Pentium D E2160 and Celeron 440.
Taiwan-based IPC makers including Advantech Company, Aaeon Technology, Axiom Technology, Portwell and Arbor Technology have already started to launch motherboards based on Q35 chipsets, according industry sources.
