Elpida Memory said its first half operating profit likely fell 62 percent due to sinking price of PC memory chips and warned that prices could remain low in the second half.
Elpida said its group operating profit likely came to ¥10 billion ($87 million) for April-September, down from ¥26.2 billion in the same period last year.
The Japanese firm's preliminary first-half profit figure is roughly in line with market estimates. Elpida warned that it was possible the PC-use DRAM price would stay low in the second half, and said it would aim to boost productivity while expanding sales of DRAM for mobile devices and digital electronics.
