Global chip sales rose 5.9 percent in September as demand for cell phones and personal computers increased, the Semiconductor Industry Association said.
The association said global chip sales totaled $22.6 billion during the month, compared with $21.3 billion in Sept. 2006. The sales rose 5 percent over August, when they totaled $21.5 billion.
Strong cell phone and personal electronics sales helped drive an increase in NAND flash revenue, which grew 58.5 percent in September over Sept. 2006, the association said.
For the third quarter, global chip sales rose to $67.8 billion, compared with $64 billion in the same quarter last year. The sales increased 13.2 percent over the second quarter, when they totaled $59.9 billion
