Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) and A-Data Technology, the leading Taiwan DRAM and memory module production companies, have delivered a conservative outlook for the Dram industry.
PSC, although seeing its October sales grow by a mild 3% on month to NT$4.8 billion (US$147.8 million), admitted seeing that weak DRAM pricing persists. The company continues to anticipate emerging demand driven by Windows Vista, this time in the first quarter of 2008, which should result in a progressive improvement in the market, said company spokesperson Eric Tang.
A-Data saw its October sales drop by 3.8% on month to NT$3.51 billion with DRAM and NAND flash accounting for 51% and 49% of company sales. The memory-module maker saw weak DRAM pricing lead to a 15.4% on-month sales decline for the DRAM segment to NT$1.8 billion. Sales from NAND flash, on the other hand, grew by 12% on month to NT$1.7 billion along with strong demand.
A-Data said monthly sales in November should stay flat on October, noting that sales will only resume growth once leading DRAM makers trim their output, encouraging a better pricing environment.
