STMicroelectronics has opened a representative office in Hanoi, according to local newspapers Viet Nam News and Thanh Nien Daily.
STMicroelectronics said it plans to supply high potential products such as air conditioners, lightings, smartcards, real-time clocks and digital equipments throughout Vietnam. The group also intends to support Vietnamese companies with suitable ideas and solutions to electronics product development and manufacturing, reported Viet Nam News.
The Hanoi-based representative office will also provide training courses to Vietnamese engineers so as to "bring them up to speed with global technology and apply it to local systems," according to Thanh Nien Daily.
In parallel, the chipmaker said it plans to open a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2008, to be followed by a planned Technical Support and Development Center.
