VIA Technologies had enjoyed high demand for its C7-D processor-based on the Everex green gPC in the US, plus CDMA 20001x RTT entry-level handset chipsets developed by VIA Telecom for Nokia. VIA's November revenues were only NT$737 million (US$22.81 million), a drop of 29.07% compared to NT$1.04 billion in October and a drop of 35.6% on year.
Due to its weakening PC chipset division, VIA will need to focus heavily on embedded platforms and low-power consumption processor products, while continuing its low-price strategy, in order to survive in the competitive market, noted sources from the PC and motherboard industry, adding that high demand for a single product will not bring about any obvious increase in overall profits.
