Acer announced that Gateway CEO, Ed Coleman, has decided to leave the company at the end of January 2008.
Acer did not state specifically why Coleman was leaving. Coleman joined Gateway as CEO in September 2006 and led the company through what Acer described as “a very challenging period of intense competition,” the preparations for and eventual sale of the company, and the subsequent launch of the post merger integration program with Acer.
The $710 million Gateway buy gave Acer a foothold here in the United States. Acer thanked Coleman for his leadership and professional contribution during the merger period and for his continued support during the transition period between now and the end of January in a short statement posted to its Web site.
Rudi Schmidleithner, who has been heading the Acer Pan America Organization since 2004, will assume responsibility for Gateway. Acer said he will head both companies going forward, and be responsible for completing the post merger integration program.
