Qimonda AG plans to cut R&D jobs in North America, reports from the U.S. regional press said.
Qimonda (Munich, Germany) has said it plans to close an R&D facility in Williston or Burlington, Vermont with 75 of around 125 Vermont employees losing their jobs, and the remaining fifty invited to move to work in Cary, North Carolina, according to the reports.
"This is based on us looking at our company structure and looking at creating a development center that will be most efficient for the future of the company," a report in the Rhode Island Providence Journal quoted Alan Walker, senior director of Qimonda's Vermont operation, as saying.
Qimonda currently employs about 325 people at its Cary location another report said. However not all those invited to move are expected to take up the offer. In all, a total of about 100 of the 450 workers at the two locations are set to lose their jobs leaving about 350 R&D workers in Cary.
