TSMC will have an higher-than-expected growth in shipments for the fourth quarter on strong orders in December, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times. TSMC's fourth-quarter shipment growth will reach 5-6%, higher than the 3-5% previously estimated, as major clients, such as Qualcomm, Nvidia, AMD and Marvell, have advanced their delivery to December of orders for the first quarter of 2008, the paper said
On the other hand, UMC may see a worse-than-expected decline because of decreased orders from major clients includes MediaTek, Texas Instruments (TI) and Realtek Semiconductor. UMC's fourth-quarter shipment decline may be worse than the 9% the company had expected.
