The Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) on December 24 held a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Nangang Exhibition Hall, the largest single exhibition hall in Taiwan able to accommodate 2,465 standard-size (3 × 3m) booths.
The inaugural use of the hall will be for the Taipei International Cycle Show slated for March 2008, while the site, along with the other halls that form part of the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), will also play host to Computex 2008, the world's second largest IT trade show, among other events.
Nangang Exhibition Hall is located to the east of Taipei city near the Nankang Software Park, the largest software industrial park in Taiwan. Total development cost of the exhibition hall reached NT$3.66 billion (US$110 million). The building complex comprises of seven floors and two basement levels with a total floor area of 144,184 square meters (1.552 million square feet) on a site of about six hectares (14.83 acres), according data from the government-sponsored Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). TAITRA is the operator of the TWTC's three existing exhibition halls and has won a 10-year franchise to operate the new hall.
Including the new hall, TWTC has a total capacity of over 5,000 exhibition booths to accommodate large international shows, TAITRA indicated. To promote exhibition and convention business in Taiwan further, the MOEA plans to construct an additional exhibition hall with about 2,000 booths on a site beside Nangang Exhibition Hall, MOEA indicated.
