Digital TV to take hold in new year

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 The Consumer Electronics Association said Friday (Dec. 28) that more than 50 percent of U.S. households own a digital TV.

According to sales projections by CEA (Arlington, Va.), digital TV makers will record 11 percent revenue growth in 2007 to over $25 billion. The group is forecasting 13 percent revenue growth and 17 percent unit sales growth for DTVs in 2008.

CEA President Gary Shapiro said in a statement that the group expects pricier high-definition sets to account for 79 percent of total DTV shipments in the U.S. in 2008.

CEA officials will assess the state of the digital TV industry in a presentation on Jan. 5, 2008, during the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
