After experiencing a drastic drop, the price of NAND flash is showing signs of stabilizing as downstream customers seem to be resuming procurement recently, according to industry sources.
Sources at memory card makers observed that pressure to drop NAND flash prices has lessened recently with customers being relatively more aggressive in procurement along with a warming up of demand in end markets. Customers from China are more active in purchasing as those from Europe and the US are experiencing a slow season. The sources added that demand trends in China will determine the price trend, rather than procurement by Apple.
Leading memory controller design house Phison Electronics commented that demand for January is good. The company expects monthly sales to bottom out accordingly. But with the Lunar New Year coming in early February, it is not yet certain about how sales will trend next month. Assuming that NAND flash prices can remain stable in the first quarter, quarterly sales should still post sequential growth, the company added.
