Patriot to setup own module production in Taiwan

Friday, January 4, 2008

US-based Patriot Memory has decided to build a plant to manufacture DRAM modules and NAND flash products in Taiwan to cater to its growing operations, according to the company.

Initial plans for the plant involve an investment of NT$100 million (US$3.08 million) to set up two production lines, the company said.

Patriot, which set up a branch office in Taiwan in 2004, has outsourced most of its production for DRAM modules and NAND flash products.

But the fast growth in both segments has prompted the company to set up its own production facilities in Taiwan, which will be the company's Asia-Pacific operations center and one of its global production bases, the company said.

Patriot is expected to showcase 32GB and 64GB flash drives at the upcoming CES, with volume production for the 32GB products starting in the first quarter, and the 64GB ones in the second.

The company also plans to launch a 128GB solid state drive (SSD) in the first half of the year.
