AMD Inc. has announced the opening of a fourth R&D center in Hyderabad, India. The new center will focus on next-generation graphics and computing solutions, the company said.
An existing R&D center in Hyderabad, which AMD took over through its acquisition of ATI Technollogies, focuses on VLSI and system design for consumer electronics. It also houses AMD's Center for Excellence in Audio Technology, and designs multimedia products including mobile handsets, game consoles, LCD panels and TV tuner cards.
AMD now has two R&D centers in both Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The centers are believed to employ about 1,000 workers.
AMD, which has a technology partnership with SemIndia, is the first major chip manufacturer in Hyderabad. The partnership is designed primarily to help AMD understand the local market.
