Qimonda offers XDR Memory

Friday, January 18, 2008 Qimonda hast started to ship first samples of its XDR memory chips.

Qimonda plans to enter the volume production phase by end of Q2,2008, the company said. The chips sport a memory capacity of 512 Mbit; for higher densities presently there is no market, a company spokesperson said.

The XDR technology, developed by IP vendor Rambus, targets bandwidth-intensive and high-throughput-applications for computing and consumer electronics such as game consoles and High-definition TV sets.

According to the experts, 44 million video consoles and 113 million digital TV sets will be produced in 2008.
