Toshiba launched new notebook

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 Toshiba launched two new notebooks powered by Intel's latest 45-nanometer Core 2 Duo mobile processor.

The systems included the general purpose Satellite U305 and the company's flagship gaming notebook, the Satellite X205. Toshiba also sells the Qosmio G45, an entertainment notebook, with Intel's latest processor, which had been code-named Penryn and released for notebooks last month.

The Satellite U305 features the 2.1-GHz T8100 Intel processor, 2 GB of memory, a 250 GB hard disk drive, and a 13.3-inch display. The machine weighs 4.6 pounds.

The notebook system supports the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi standard, which can stream data at speeds five times faster than the previous 802.11g standard, Toshiba said. The notebook supports Bluetooth for connecting peripherals wirelessly, and has built-in stereo speakers, Web cam, microphone, and fingerprint reader.

For gamers, the Satellite X205 features the same processor as the U305, plus two Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards. In addition, the notebook comes with 2 GB of memory, a 320 GB hard drive and a 17-inch display. The system supports the same wireless standards as the U305, and also includes a Web cam, microphone, and fingerprint reader. In addition, the notebook has an HD DVD high-definition optical drive, four built-in Harman Kardon stereo speakers and one sub-woofer. The X205 starts at $2,000.
