ECS to ship 3.8 million Notebook this year

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Elitegroup Computer System (ECS) expects its notebook shipments in 2008 to increase to 3.8 million units, an on-year growth of 26.67%.

Although ECS is the OEM for Intel's Classmate PC, the system is finding it difficult to inspire demand in emerging markets and shipments for the year are only expected to to hit 200,000 units, double the 100,000 units of 2007.

In addition to more upcoming OEM orders, the company plans to launch 9- and 11-inch G10IL notebooks for the telecommunications channel market. ECS is currently in negotiations with vendors in Europe and the US.

Finally, ECS also expects motherboard shipments will benefit from the change in strategy to built its brand by targeting the mid-range and high-end markets. The company forecast shipments for the year are to reach 28 million units.
