LCD panel prices for notebook applications may expect price increases in April leading to some notebook makers building up their inventory.
Leading notebook vendors such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell had already started building up their panel inventory since the end of 2007 as they expected to see a panel shortage in 2008. Some notebook system makers have been looking to increase their panel inventory by about one week above the 1-2 month levels they usually retain, amid expectations of a price increase for notebook panels in April, according to the system makers.
The system makers expect prices for notebook panel to remain stable in March.
With surging demand for notebooks in newly emerging markets and the growing trend of notebooks replacing desktop PCs, notebook makers feel optimistic about their shipments in 2008 and supply for notebook panel may run tight starting from June, the makers said.
