NAND flash module makers look to balance pricing competition from Samsung
Sources at memory module makers in Taiwan are indicating that because Samsung Electronics is growing its finished memory card shipments to meet the demand and reduce supply going to the spot market, more module houses are petitioning Hynix Semiconductor, Micron Technology (IM Flash Technologies) and Toshiba to lower their NAND flash chip prices to make the market more competitive.
The adjustment to NAND flash pricing that Samsung has made by increasing its shipment volume of finished memory cards has led to aggravated price competition in the memory card market, the module houses pointed out.
In addition to expressing their pricing concerns, the downstream makers noted that they would rather purchase NAND flash memory cards from Samsung if the other flash memory makers are unwilling to reduce prices for their NAND flash chips.
