Taiwan president-elect Ma Ying-jeou urged Foxconn to contribute more investment in Taiwan, particularly in the southern region, during a meeting with chairman Terry Guo at the Foxconn Group's headquarters in Tucheng, northern Taiwan.
In addition to helping accelerate the development of the high-tech industry in the southern port city of Kaohsiung, Ma also urged Foxconn to commit more effort to promote public welfare and a healthy development in Taiwan, Guo said after the meeting with the president.
Guo said that the Foxconn Group plans to rely more on the facilities available at Kaohsiung's harbor, using the port as a hub for transporting goods produced by the group in Vietnam and India to the US. Currently, the group uses Hong Kong or Singapore as its main transport hubs.
Foxconn also plans to commit investments in the Kaohsiung Software Park, the Chinese-language Commercial Times has quoted Guo as saying.
