To help shape the NAND flash memory industry and capitalize on the emerging market opportunity in the future Milpitas, Calif.-based LSI Corp reported today that it has joined the Open NAND Flash Interface (ONFi) Working Group, an organization group tasked with simplifying the integration of NAND flash memory into consumer electronics devices, computing platforms and industrial systems.
LSI said it is able to contribute end-to-end silicon, software and systems expertise to the ONFi initiative given that it is a provider of ICs for hard disk drive manufacturers and disk storage systems and software.
LSI joins a cadre of more than 70 member companies in the ONFi initiative, which are working to develop a standardized NAND flash interface that allows interoperability between NAND devices.
The ONFi Working Group was formed in 2006 to speed adoption of new NAND flash components in end user applications through standardization efforts in the interface with platform, host software, firmware and/or hardware.
