National Semi to cut jobs

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 National Semiconductor said that it would terminate 130 positions, primarily in product line and support functions.

National, which currently employs approximately 7,300 employees, is scheduled to announce its fourth quarter fiscal 2008 financial results and hold a conference call on June 5, at which time the company will also provide an outlook for the first quarter of fiscal 2009.

Hit by a slowdown in wireless sector, National lowered its sales outlook for the third quarter of fiscal 2008, ending Feb. 24.

Seeking to cut costs, National earlier this year disposed certain manufacturing equipment and reduced its staff by 200 jobs at its wafer fabrication facilities worldwide.
