Hynix Semiconductor has confirmed a power outage occurred at its Wuxi, China fab on May 19 and estimates any production impact would be limited.
HNSL, a joint venture between Hynix and Numonyx, located in Wuxi, China, had an electrical blackout at 11:30 on May 19, 2008. Full power was resumed at 02:50 on May 20 but since an emergency generator kicked in immediately, the incident had a limited impact on production, Hynix said.
Hynix added in estimating the loss in sales at US$16-18 million. It also noted that the affected fab does not focus on 12-inch DRAM production, but declined to comment more on the details of production.
