Acer plans to release its approximate 30% stake in memory module maker Apacer Technology soon, with fellow memory maker A-Data Technology likely to be the potential buyer for the freed-up shares, according to market sources.
ML Chen, chairman of A-Data, declined to confirm if A-Data would take up any Apacer shares, but stated that the company would be very interested in such a deal. Apacer president Chen I-shih also declined to comment on the rumors.
The last time Acer released its holdings in Apacer was in July 2007 when it sold off 19 million Apacer shares for NT$256.5 million (US$8.4 million).
Acer is currently still the largest shareholder of Apacer, followed by Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) with a 19% stake and Silicon Storage Technology (SST) with a 9% stake.
