Recent spot pricing for NAND flash rebounded to regain almost all of the value lost during the week ending May 30, according to market research firm Gartner Inc. The 16-Gb MLC NAND device drove up pricing, which rose more than 9% on average, while pricing for most other densities was up modestly.
As a result, on a weighted 1-GB average, spot pricing rose 5.7%, or 15 cents, reaching $2.83. Although demand drivers such as solid-state drives (SSDs) continue to get considerable attention, said Gartner, SSDs will have little impact on the NAND flash market this year.
As for DRAMs, last week, spot pricing was moving back up again, but the market is still showing signs of weak demand, said Gartner. The mainstream 1-GB density part saw stronger pricing ($2.39) with average spot pricing up 1.4% across all densities and technologies compared with the previous week.
