Nand Flash Price Continues to Free Fall

Monday, June 16, 2008

NAND flash chips prices has continued to free-fall, with the price of 8Gb NAND flash dropping to as low as US$2.35 amid weak demand as consumers worldwide tighten their spending in fear of inflation.

In addition, chipmakers will soon need to try to keep the price of 16Gb NAND flash from dropping below the US$4-level, according to market sources.

As a means to reduce losses stemming from declining NAND flash prices, downstream memory module makers are ramping up the ratio of DRAM modules in their total production, added the sources.

Demand for NAND flash chips from the SSD segment will also remain weak in 2008 compared to previous projections of a robust demand from the sector, the sources noted.
