Microsoft inaugurated its Microsoft Innovation Center in Taiwan, with R&D focusing on next-generation web applications and software engineering, according to Microsoft Taiwan.

This is Microsoft's second R&D center in Taiwan following the Microsoft Technology Center which open in June 2003, Microsoft Taiwan noted.

The new center, stationed in Nankang Software Park located in eastern Taipei, will introduce international cutting-edge software development technologies, including Usability Design and Testing, RIA Programming, Mashup Technology and Surface Computing, to enhance Taiwan partners' technological capabilities and thereby international competitiveness, Microsoft Taiwan indicated.

The center will have an R&D staff of 100 members, with 30 existing ones coming from Microsoft Taiwan as well as 50 and to come from Microsoft's grater China R&D team and 20 from Microsoft headquarters, Microsoft Taiwan pointed out.
